Pro Bono Opportunities
MLSA coordinates with local pro bono programs sponsored by courts and bar associations throughout Montana to match attorneys with clients. We have opportunities for attorneys to assist with civil legal issues through limited scope representation as well as full representation. While family law issues are the greatest need of clients, MLSA does our best to match pro bono attorneys to the types of cases they wish to take. In addition, MLSA has specific opportunities for attorneys who practice bankruptcy or tax law. Learn more about our Pro Bono opportunities.
MLSA participates in three AmeriCorps programs. MLSA's AmeriCorps VISTA Project places VISTA members with nonprofit and governmental organizations throughout the state to expand their capacity to fight poverty. Members of the AmeriCorps State Justice for Montanans Project serve with MLSA and other organizations to provide direct services to people seeking assistance with legal issues. Attorneys who serve with MLSA's AmeriCorps Legal Fellows Program provide legal services to MLSA clients and recruit pro bono attorneys.
MLSA summer law student interns will work side by side with MLSA staff in an effort to provide, protect and enhance access to justice. MLSA law student interns will be exposed to various areas of poverty law and gain experience through interviewing clients seeking advice or assistance, counseling and advising clients, negotiating with opposing parties and counsel, and other related legal duties.
Legal Aid Fellowship
MLSA invites interested students or others to submit ideas to MLSA about potential fellowship opportunities.
