ICYMI: Information for Students with Disabilities

Disability Rights Montana recently settled a case that changes how long students with disabilities can stay in high school. Here’s what families need to know:

  • If your child left school last year (2024–2025) because they turned 18 or got a modified diploma (a certificate for completing IEP goals but not all state graduation requirements), they can re-enroll. They only have about 30 days to return the re-enrollment form from their school.
  • If your child will be a senior this school year (2025-2026), request an IEP meeting right away.
  • If your child is still in school but may need more time, ask their IEP case manager about updating their plan.

Schools will send notices, but acting early is best.
