MLSA’s Emily McLean, Brittney Mada, and Bill Hooks published a Special Feature in the Management Information Exchange (MIE) Journal.
Their work is titled “The Montana Eviction Intervention Project: Legal Relief for Montana Tenants in the Wake of the COVID-19 Pandemic.”
The article outlines how MLSA partnered with the Montana Department of Commerce to begin the Montana Eviction Intervention Project (MEIP) using CARES Act funding in October 2020.
MEIP connects Montanans facing evictions with free resources, advice calls, legal representation, and financial assistance. Throughout the pandemic, the need for services has increased. The program has adapted and evolved due to geographical challenges and limits in attorney capacity.
Despite the hurdles, MEIP has assisted hundreds of families facing eviction. “This work is how we show our neighbors we care, and prove that the justice system is as much for them as it is for all of us. It’s how we ensure people know they deserve to have a home, if for no other reason than they are human.”
