Other Ways to Give
Dedicated MLSA attorneys and staff work extraordinarily hard for low-income Montanans with pressing civil legal needs. Despite this hard work, every day MLSA must turn away clients with legal needs due to lack of staffing and resources to adequately cover our vast state.
You can help MLSA’s work with a variety of gifts that can be tailored to your unique financial needs. No matter the form of your donation, you will increase justice for low-income Montanans. You will help seniors stay in their homes, mothers and their children escape domestic violence, and other low-income people assert and protect their legal rights in a variety of ways. Your contribution makes a huge difference in individual client lives, and improves justice overall, which is the foundation for what we all hold dear: improving public health, safeguarding participation, ensuring security, fighting poverty, and providing education.
Support MLSA in the most efficient way possible with a monthly donation of $35, $20 or $10 through our Pillars of Justice program. Your recurrent gift makes a huge difference in individual client lives, and improves justice overall, which is the foundation for what we all hold dear: improving public health, safeguarding participation, ensuring security, fighting poverty, and providing education.

What better way to honor a family member, friend or colleague than to make a gift in their name that will help improve access to justice for the most vulnerable Montanans? You can do this by making a tribute gift to Montana Legal Services Association. MLSA will inform individuals of the generous gift that you made in their honor and the impact it will have on the lives of the clients MLSA serves.
When you name MLSA to receive a bequest or other gift through your estate plans, you play a personal role in increasing access to justice in Montana. Endowments are a popular way to make a charitable donation whose contributions are not expendable, only the earnings on those contributions are available to support MLSA. Endowments will be crafted to meet the Montana Charitable Endowment Tax Credit.Charitable Gift Annuity: Your gift of cash or property can provide immediate tax benefits, and ensure that a loved one receives fixed income payments for life, while supporting MLSA with the principal amount.
Cy Pres Awards
MLSA welcomes Cy Pres, as well as court settlement awards. Cy Pres (French for “as close as possible”) awards allow unclaimed settlement funds from class-action suits to be distributed to organizations that are most likely to benefit or pursue the interests of the settlement. Court settlement awards come about when parties in a case agree that as part of the settlement one party will make a specified dollar contribution to a specific charity and the court approves the settlement. MLSA is an appropriate recipient of both Cy Pres and court approved settlement funds, and such awards will support the free legal assistance MLSA provides for low-income individuals and families to help them access justice to secure or preserve the most basic necessities of life – shelter, food, and protection against violence. Please keep MLSA in mind when directing a Cy Pres or court settlement award. For more information about our population focus and issues addressed, please contact us at the number below.
MLSA has special community drives to support individual projects at MLSA. We aren't running any special campaigns right now, but your donation increases fairness in our justice system for everyone. Why not make a donation today? That's pretty special!
