Can MLSA take every case?
MLSA tries very hard to help each person who contacts us. We will do whatever we can to help you, but we can only offer our full services to people who meet our eligibility requirements. Learn how to apply for MLSA services on our Apply for Legal Services page.
Most of our legal services are available only for people with income at or below 125% of the federal poverty level and very limited assets. You must also be a U.S. citizen or eligible alien.
Sorry, we can't help with traffic violations or criminal law.
What happens if MLSA cannot take my case?
Callers may be referred to the State Bar of Montana Lawyer Referral and Information Service or other agencies for assistance. We will do our best to find you the help you need.
Also, you can go to MontanaLawHelp.org to find information about common legal problems, courts, and resources. If you cannot find the information you need on the MontanaLawHelp.org website, click on the LiveHelp picture in the upper right hand corner of your screen and ask for help finding the information.
The Montana Supreme Court has a Self-Help Law Program with court-based centers throughout Montana to help people find legal information, forms and other resources. Note: The Court's Self Help Law Program is different from MLSA's Self Help Law Unit.
